Fly Ash Carbon Burn-Out Facility
| Owner: South Carolina Electric & Gas
Project Location: Eastover, South Carolina Project Completion: January 1999 Project Description: ESI was the engineer and the construction manager for the first commercial carbon burn-out (CBO) facility built in the United States. This facility utilizes patented technology developed by Progress Materials, Inc. (PMI) to reduce the high carbon content of fly ash resulting from low NOx burner conversion of pulverized coal-fired utility boilers. The heat recovered from this process results in an improvement to the utility boiler heat rate. The CBO plant processes the fly ash in an efficient manner to reduce the carbon content and provide a superior additive product for concrete. ESI took the process parameters developed by PMI, and designed and produced the required information to construct the first full-scale operating facility. ESI was also contracted by PMI to provide construction management services to construct the plant and meet the construction schedule required by South Carolina Electric & Gas. |
