Modifications to 130,000 PPH Wood-Fired Boiler System

Project Description:

This project entailed the modification of two 65,000 pph wood-fired boilers. Modifications included extensive pressure part changes so that a water-cooled grate could be added to the furnace, along with a new wood feed, new overfire air system, and DCS combustion control to increase the steam production on wood. As a result of the modifications, the steam production was increased by over 30% which provided significant fuel cost savings. In addition, CO emissions were reduced by approximately 90%.
