Owner: Hoechst Celanese
Project Location: Rock Hill, South Carolina
Project Completion: February 1990
Project Description:
ESI supplied personnel to Hoechst Celanese to act as their project engineer in the development of a new distributive control system on five distillation stills and towers. The project’s final objective was to increase the efficiency of the system such that all five systems would be able to interact with each other to operate the most efficient system at any given time. Optimization of acid usage and recovery was primary to the economics of this project. The project scope included verification of all existing field transmitters and wiring, evaluation of various DCS system alternatives, controls logic, new HVAC system design, new control room design, and preliminary specifications for the demolition of the existing system in conjunction with the installation of the new system sequenced to reduce plant production losses.
