Engineering Study & Feasibility Analysis
Roquette America Steam Facility
Evaluation of Future Steam and Power Generation
Owner: Roquette America
Project Location: Keokuk, Iowa
Project Completion: May 1995
Project Description:
ESI performed an engineering study and feasibility analysis for the complete new installation of circulating fluidized bed boiler system to fire both petroleum coke and bituminous coal to make both power and process steam. The project included several alternative designs which included various combinations of the following equipment: two 500,000 pph steam capacity boilers operating at 1500 psig/950°F superheat steam pressure and temperature, two nominal 60 MW capacity steam turbine-generators, two 250,000 pph steam capacity gas/oil-fired package boilers operating at 185 psig saturated steam. The facility design included complete scope of supply for a greenfield operating cogeneration facility including site work; concrete; foundations; buildings; structural steel; waterside auxiliaries; auxiliary boiler system; water treatment; material handling and storage for coal, petroleum coke, ash, and limestone; stacks; distribution and plant piping; electrical, instrumentation and distributed control system; electrical including power distribution and utility interconnects; and other miscellaneous requirements. ESI performed the various alternative facility preliminary designs, estimated the plus or minus 10% capital cost requirements, developed a design/build schedule, and calculated all operating and maintenance costs of the facility.
