Conversion of a Pulverized Coal-Fired Boiler to a Pulverized Wood-Fired Boiler

Project Description:

ESI was the EPC Contractor for this project that included the conversion of an existing 100,000 pph B&W pulverized coal-fired boiler to a pulverized wood-fired boiler. Sawmill waste is received from surrounding sawmills and dried in an ESI Cascades Dryer System to less than 10% moisture and then pulverized to less than 1/16″ before being pneumatically conveyed to two suspension burners. The dryer utilizes the boiler flue gas for the necessary heat for drying. The tubular air heater is partially bypassed in order to attain the necessary flue gas temperature.
