ESI Wins Worldwide Engineering Competition

Amsterdam, Netherlands -  Kennesaw, Georgia-based ESI Inc of Tennessee was selected as a winner of Bentley’s world-wide engineering competition, the 2010 Be Inspired Awards held in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Recognized for their work on the Department of Energy – Biomass Cogeneration Facility at the Savannah River Site, ESI was selected to receive the award in the Innovation in Power Generation category. Competing as a finalist against two other international companies, a hydro plant in Brazil and a pumped storage power generation plant in China, ESI took the top honor.  

The Innovation in Power Generation winning design was for Ameresco Federal Solutions, a facility manager for the Federal Government. The project is a $150 million wood-fired plant that replaces a deteriorating coal-fired facility.  The new plant, which will produce 20 megawatts of electric power, will save $35 million in energy and eliminate 100,000 tons of greenhouse gases annually.

The projects are nominated by Bentley users from around the world and the winners are selected by an independent panel of accomplished industry experts in various fields of infrastructure. The award winners for the 24 categories were chosen from 320 nominations submitted by 249 organizations in 45 countries.
